I enrolled my son in soccer and baseball this spring because he wants to do it. I am not one of the stage mom who wants their kid to be the number one in a game or a mom who wants his kid to be good at everything. The only reason why i enrolled him is because he wants to do it. As a result, our family has a very busy schedule every week. So lastnight after one of his soccer games i asked him as to which one does he enjoy doing, baseball or soccer…
son: i like both of it…100% for each…
i: why do u like it?
son: because it is fun!..i know we lost during our soccer game but it is fun…i love to do it because of the fun not because i like to win it…
i: really? that is great! so your purpose is to have fun and not to win the game?
son: oh no mom…i like to do it to learn and to have fun and not because i like to win…if we win, its good…if not, it is still ok…😊

Would that all sports personnel thought the same

I certainly hope your son keeps this attitude. He will have a happy and successful life. (my sadness is sometimes seeing that my grandchildren have a ‘want to win’ drive which does destroy their enjoyment of the games they play.) (This is fuelled by the incorrect mindset often taught that ‘winning is everything.’ ) Nurture your son’s attitude and be proud of him for knowing its truth.
